Volleyball Tools

A coaching system that is useful for evaluating, managing, and organizing a volleyball program. This is a set of spreadsheets, forms, letters, graphing and charting tools which enable a coach to build a streamlined coaching system.

This software works...

Simple and straight forward but with enough depth to keep using this system for years to come.
These spreadsheets, stats, charts, and graphs and tools were perfected at the high school level but can be modified to fit a college or middle school setting.

Many times there are hard feelings when athletes are cut or placed in a role that is less than what they hoped for. What about those times in games when a coach substitutes a player in/out of the game, or makes a decision about whether a player plays all around or not? Life can be difficult on a coach, but having cold hard facts helps.

Volleyball Tools is a good way to keep a close eye on player development and plan playing time for each game. Though not spectacular, it offers many ways to assess players and is inexpensive. There are many spread sheets, forms, graphs included in the pack.

This is how to use the system:

  • In the beginning of daily doubles I input all of my players names, ages/grades, and positions. In the first few days I test all of the athletes using the daily doubles charts and graphs spread sheet. During the season I use the regular charts and graphs to monitor the progress of the players. I print and post the charts and graphs weekly for players and parents to see where all the athletes are at in the scheme of things.

  • This is a great deterrent to parents who believe their child is the best player in the universe. Some coaches may think it best to replace player names with code names of numbers to spare feelings (I don't because it doesn't take long to figure it out... if Sally is a team's worst server, or Benjamin is awful at spiking, what their "secret code "is.) Though, each to their own...

  • I print the stat taking sheets and have my stat takers input the stats and compile totals. I take those totals and input them into my spreadsheets that have the formulas that make the charts and graphs.

  • The game plan form is used for gathering my thoughts and strategies, including changes in line-ups and contingencies in case of injury etc...

  • The game day line-up form is valid for the state of Oregon, though you may need to make a few changes to for your state or USA volleyball.

  • Included is a letter outlining volleyball standards for the players. I expand these rules to parents and coaches as well. This letter can be personalized and adapted to your situation.
